The long, warm summer days herald outdoor music festivals that range from the small and eclectic to the large parkland events with headline acts from world-famous performers. Liverpool celebrates its strong bond with Ireland in the Liverpool Irish Festival, while the Biennial Art Festival gives contemporary art one of its biggest UK promotions. Celebrating the link between Liverpool and Ireland and reveling in the colourful Irish heritage of the city over two weeks in October, this festival showcases the best of Irish arts and culture. An eclectic combination of music, drama, comedy, film, talks and walks, the festival fills concert halls, pubs and clubs, museums and galleries throughout the city.

The Liverpool International Music Festival was formerly known as the Mathew Street Festival, but has grown over the years to sprawl across the city, drawing stars and up-and-coming talent to Liverpool every year. Held over four days, iconic locations and concert theatres become stages for new and established talent.

Liverpool Sound City is now the largest metropolitan music and arts festival in the UK, playing host to more than 360 artists in 25 venues across the city. Across three days in early summer, the annual event also features speakers examining issues around popular culture, dance and arts displays.

The annual celebration of Liverpool’s thriving food and drink scene brings together more than 160 talented local chefs and producers to serve up a giant feast in the heart of Sefton Park. Held in September, you can try delicious food and drink from local and regional producers, soak up the atmosphere and pick up a few cooking tips from the experts at the various demonstrations and masterclasses.

Boasting a dynamic programme of events over 10 weeks every two years, the Biennial is the largest international contemporary arts festival in the UK. It has commissioned more than 200 new pieces of art since its launch in 1999 and it attracts 600,000 visitors to the city.
